The Shmonei Ashrei or Amidah (Standing Prayer) is a traditional prayer that consists of 19 individual blessings or B'rkot (individually called B'rkah) Originally it was 18 Blessings but later a 19th "Blessing" was added which is actually a curse upon heretics. We will learn here the first SEVEN Blessings of the original Shemonei (18) Ashrei, with the Father's name restored. It is interesting to note that the word Ashrei, the first word in the Book of Psalms means 'Blessed' and also 'Happy.'
The Root word ASHAR אָשַׁר is a verb that means 'to go straight, advance or go forward' The Verb L'asher means 'to approve, confirm, or authorize' What a wonderful way to begin each day!!! Standing upright before Our Creator and King, declaring our allegiance to HIM ALONE, and thanking him as well as petitioning him for his continued favor in our lives! Begin by practicing saying one prayer each morning 18 times for the first week, in both English and Hebrew, then the following week add the second prayer, praying the first prayer and then repeating it 16 more times. the following week add the third, until at week 18 when you will have added all the blessings! |
